Research Associate / Associate Scientist – Wet Lab

Quantum Biosciences is an early-stage deep-tech startup based out of the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP) in Bengaluru.
We are developing next-generation cellular diagnostic platforms that interface advanced physical instrumentation with real-time biological readouts to detect early indicators of cellular distress before permanent organ damage occurs.
Position Summary
We are looking for an agile, detail-oriented Research Associate / Associate Scientist to join our laboratory team at C-CAMP. In this role, you will take hands-on ownership of routine mammalian cell culture, primary sample preparation, reagent formulation, and experimental sample handoffs for platform testing.
This role is well suited for an ambitious Master’s graduate (MSc/MTech) looking to gain high-impact translational R&D experience in an agile startup environment, working alongside our wet-lab team and interfacing with physical instrumentation platforms.
What You Will Do
Cell Culture & Sample Processing
Maintain, passage, bank, and characterize continuous mammalian cell lines under strict aseptic technique. Perform routine isolation and quality checks of primary cells (such as PBMCs) from biological samples, and execute standard cell viability, cytotoxicity, and cellular response assays.
Reagents & Sample Preparation
Prepare and standardize physiological buffers, media, and colloidal/nanoparticle suspensions. Perform basic particle and sample characterization using standard benchtop tools, and format biological samples for measurement on experimental instrumentation platforms.
Data Traceability & Bench Discipline
Maintain clean, audit-ready experimental records with clear documentation of reagents, lot numbers, and condition parameters. Assist in troubleshooting experimental variations and drafting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Lab Operations & Startup Agility
Share day-to-day responsibility for wet-lab upkeep at C-CAMP, including sterile room maintenance, consumable inventory tracking, and biosafety compliance (BSL-2). Proactively assist with routine laboratory tasks and adapt flexibly as experimental priorities evolve.
What You Bring to the Team
Academic Background
MSc or MTech in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related Life Sciences discipline.
Wet-Lab Bench Experience
1–3 years of hands-on wet-lab bench experience (including thesis work or research fellowships).
Cell Culture & Bio-Analytical Workflows
Proven competence in sterile mammalian cell culture techniques, familiarity with standard benchtop bio-analytical techniques, and advantageous experience with primary cell handling or separation workflows.
Startup Agility & Cross-Discipline Collaboration
High personal initiative, strong organizational habits, enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced, collaborative incubator setting, and clear communication skills with comfort collaborating across disciplines.
Bonus Points If You Have
- Prior experience working with human blood samples, including blood fractionation and primary component separation (such as PBMCs).
- Familiarity with colloidal, nanoparticle, or magnetic sensor suspension handling.
- Prior experience working in an accredited BSL-2 facility or bio-incubator environment.
- Experience drafting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) or maintaining audit-ready laboratory records.
